Howie Berman, CAE is an association professional with more than 16 years of experience working with non-profit membership organizations. He currently serves as Chief Operating Officer for the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL) in Alexandria, VA. In this position, he oversees Business Operations, Human Resources, Member Services, and Information Technology for the organization. He is passionate about solving complex problems to deliver measurable, cost-effective results to make the ACTFL’s mission and vision a reality.

Prior to his work at ACTFL, Howie served as Director of IT & Members Services at the American Society for Cell Biology (ASCB) and Associate Director of Meetings & Education at the American Society for Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics (ASCPT).

Howie received his BA in Political Science and Spanish from the University of Richmond and his MA in Middle Eastern Studies from the University of Chicago. He holds a CAE designation from the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE) and serves on the Executive Committee of the Trust for Insuring Educators (TIE).
